Great wine starts with great grapes.
We are privileged to be working with the fantastic team at Stagecoach Vineyard. Apogee's K3B block Cabernet Sauvignon was planted in 1997 and is located high up on Atlas Peak. This west facing block enjoys the warm afternoon sun allowing the grapes to gently ripen resulting in a wine with amazing color, texture, tannins and complexity.
Our vines use a VSP cordon trellis system and our fruit is clone 15 on 1103P root stock. This cabernet clone originated from Bordeaux and is known for producing high levels of Anthocyanins and age worthy wines with tremendous body and structure.
Amanda, Brodie, and the entire team at Stagecoach Vineyard did an excellent job managing the wet winter, cool spring and warm summer. The relatively late arrival of veraison presented some unique canopy management and pruning challenges during the growing season.
Ultimately our fruit is able to hang on the vine for a longer ripening period, allowing for extra flavor development. The end result is an amazing harvest with spectacular grapes. We couldn't be happier.
Apogee’s barrels are custom toasted and specifically crafted for our wine. The new French oak barrels have been aged for 36-months and are provided by La Tonnellerie Berger, a renowned cooper located in Bordeaux, France.
Wine has intrigued man for thousands of years. It has been part of religious ceremonies, royal coronations, and most importantly, everyday life.
While I tasted wine as a kid, it wasn't until I arrived in New York City after college in 1991 that wine became a part of my life. I met many interesting and eclectic people. Luckily for me, they all seemed to have excellent palates and wine collections. Even better, was that my new friends were tremendously generous, and shared their knowledge, experience, and most importantly, their wine!
I have been fortunate to travel the world, and on each trip, I try to visit with local winemakers at their vineyards. My wine making style is influenced by these visits and conversations with winemakers from Tuscany, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Stellenbosch, Tokyo, Israel, Lebanon, the Duoro Valley, and of course Napa Valley, which we now call home.
A few years ago, I decided to take my love of wine to the next level and earned my wine making credentials at Cornell University.
A special thanks goes to Jesse G. who has been extraordinarily generous with his time and talents, as he has guided me on this process.
Cheers and Enjoy!
