Great wine starts with great grapes.
We are privileged to be working with the fantastic team at Stagecoach Vineyard. Apogee's K3B block Cabernet Sauvignon was planted in 1997 and is located high up on Pritchard Hill. This south facing block enjoys the warm afternoon sun allowing the grapes to gently ripen resulting in a wine with amazing color, texture, tannins and complexity.
Our vines use a VSP cordon trellis system and our fruit is clone 15 on 1103P root stock. This cabernet clone originated from Bordeaux and is known for producing high levels of Anthocyanins and age worthy wines with tremendous body and structure.
Amanda, Brodie, and the entire team at Stagecoach Vineyard did an excellent job managing the wet winter, cool spring and warm summer. The relatively late arrival of veraison presented some unique canopy management and pruning challenges during the growing season.
Ultimately our fruit was able to hang on the vine for a longer ripening period, allowing for extra flavor development. The end result is an amazing harvest with spectacular grapes. We couldn't be happier.
Apogee’s barrels are custom toasted and specifically crafted for our wine. The new French oak barrels have been aged for 36-months and are provided by La Tonnellerie Berger, a renowned cooper located in Bordeaux, France.
Apogee’s Dragonfly Rosé is a Saignée of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Pritchard Hill section of Stagecoach Vineyards in Napa.
This is a complex and well-balanced rosé wine that is dry, acidic, structured with multiple layers, savory with a nice long finish.
Unlike your typical rosé, Apogee’s Dragonfly is not overly sweet, fruity, or high in alcohol.
The Apogee Dragonfly Rosé pairs well with shellfish (especially mussels), cheese, BBQ, a burger and fries, risotto, as well as other rich dishes.
We believe wine can be transformative.
Your first taste becomes a moment etched in your memory, complete with the surroundings, the company, the music in the background - the experience lingers long after the glass is empty. And then you chase that feeling, searching for the point in time where the first sip left you speechless, in awe of what’s to come.
The moment for us was on our honeymoon in Italy. We had our perfect bottle of Brunello di Montalcino, paired alongside a Bisteca Fiorentina, and that memory has stayed with us for 25 years.
The creation of Apogee Wines stems from our passion and desire to craft special wines that can be shared with friends, both old and new. It's not only about the liquid in the bottle, but the stories, experiences, and connections it fosters. Apogee Wines emerges not just as a winery, but as a vessel for creating cherished moments, and sharing the joy and beauty found in a well-crafted bottle of wine.
A few years ago, we decided to take our love of wine to the next level and earned wine making credentials at Cornell University.
Cheers and Enjoy!
